"My Music At Work": Strategies for Integrating Music into OERs and and Composition & Literature Courses

Session Description

This presentation covers ways to create OERs so that participants can share lessons where music is integrated into composition and literature courses. I will offer methods for creating and sharing OERs that are based on teachers' use of their existing favorite lessons and texts. Using examples from community college children's literature, introduction to literature, and research and composition courses, I will show participants how easy it is to create and share music and lyrics.
Copyright and OER publishing opportunities will be covered as well.

Customizing e-Learning Platform - Canvas Platform

Session Description

E-learning platforms are tools and means of interacting with students. A default template shell always needs customization to adequately, easily, and simply address course-related material.
Professors are always encouraged to modify the default template platform to make the course shell more attractive, easy to navigate, and engaging.
This requires tweaking the shell by adding, modifying materials, and/or removing unnecessary ones.
Editing the default shell requires time, web design knowledge, and sometimes graphic design talents.

The presenter will share data-driven insights and participant experiences to highlight effective course design options, student-centered approaches, and equitable scheduling and discussion board practices that empower all learners. The session will include a demonstration of alternative course setups, a comparison of learner participation and survey results, and reflections on how these practices can be applied across diverse educational contexts. By combining course data, learner feedback, and design strategies, attendees will gain actionable insights to create inclusive and equitable learning environments that address the varied needs of today's students.
